Grapes may grow in a “hens and chicks” pattern, or millerandage, producing alternately large and tiny berries. While bothersome for some grapes because it creates varying degrees of ripeness, a few varieties benefit, like Pinot Noir and
Chardonnay: the high ratio of grape skin to juice gives lots of flavor.
